Zachary Flaherty is a Midwest business owner whose passion is all about the people. In his 20 years of creating and building companies his number one focus has been, and always will be, doing the right thing.
He understands whole-heartedly that you get what you give!
Zachary is married to his high school sweetheart – Jessica Flaherty. He has two daughters (Ali – 12 and Bentley – 8) who share the love for competitive cheer.
As co-founder of Tribe Athletics, his mission remains the same: it’s all about the kids and families; creating a positive environment where children of all ages can grow as athletes and people where families come together to support not only their own children, but also all of the other children. Additionally, Zachary can’t wait to see kids to parents making lifelong friendships along the way, creating an extension to their families and building their TRIBE.
Dan Hocken has been in the Midwest his entire life and in the cheerleading world since 2000. Dan has built his repertoire in the cheerleading industry by building strong relationships with the athletes and coaches he works with and he’s been privileged to work with teams coast to coast as well as internationally.
In his free time, he loves training for races, exercising, and all forms of fitness. Dan and his wife, Britny enjoy working out together and traveling with their friends to new locations near and far.
Dan is excited to bring his cheerleading, coaching, and relationship-building techniques to all of the staff, athletes, and families that will be a part of Tribe Athletics. As a co-founder of Tribe, he believes fully the importance of communication and effective coaching techniques. Dan can’t wait to see the relationships that are built and the impact that Tribe can make on every individual that comes through the doors and beyond. Jessica Flaherty is Tribe’s Mama Bear And Bling Leader. She heads up pro shop designs, band aid placement, front desk responsibilities and hugs. She is committed to providing a safe environment where kids can grow as athletes, but more importantly grooming them into successful young men and women.
Jessica is married to Zachary. They have two daughters, Ali and Bentley. Jessica found her love of all star cheer their daughter’s first season, 8 years ago. She was immediately hooked. She shares her girls’ passion for cheer, tumbling and competing. But the biggest attraction for her is the sense of family and bonding they experienced within their cheer family. Some of her closest friendships were made through this sport. This is a huge priority to her at Tribe, that not only the athletes make new friends and share a family-like bond, but the families as well. With hopes that these years in the gym create life long bonds to be carried well beyond their time at Tribe.
Britny is originally from the Chicago area in Illinois. She came to Iowa to cheer at Drake University and study graphic design. She’s been involved in cheer since 2005 including time with Ace Athletics and Drake.
Britny is married to Dan and they have two fun-loving dogs, Saydi and Griz who love car rides and travel as much as their mom and dad. When she’s not at work with Dan, Britny loves to workout and watch food videos.
Britny is so excited to be a part of Tribe – she loves teaching kids how to tumble, cheer, and find confidence. She loves the smile on a child that has just mastered a new skill.
Kenzie is the Tribe Executive Administrator and helps with all of the day-to-day operations inside of the office and gym.
Kenzie started gymnastics at a young age and continued the sport for 8 years, she then began dance and took classes of all different styles including, hip hop, jazz, lyrical, pointe, and also danced on her high school dance team. In high school Kenzie began cheering for basketball and football along with all-star cheerleading.
After graduating from Iowa State in 2016 Kenzie has been teaching Cheer and Pom, Hip Hop, and Tumbling at a local dance studio. In her free time she loves to spend time with friends and family, work out, and binge watch Netflix.
Kenzie has a true passion for working with kids and cheerleading and loves helping them reach their goals and make a positive impact in their lives! She loves making lifelong relationships with the athletes and their families and she is so excited to be a part of the Tribe family!

Miranda Conner started her tumbling career as a gymnast at Chows where she spent close to ten years and has been involved in cheerleading since 2009. She has competed at worlds several times, as well as coached in the competitive cheer world for multiple years.
Miranda knows that cheerleading is much more than a sport, and she can’t wait to share her passion in cheerleading to all ages as well as teach them valuable life lessons. Miranda truly believes that “everything happens for a reason” and that being part of Tribe will be much bigger than just cheerleading – it will be a family.
Cassie Reed is 27 years young! She grew up in West Des Moines and graduated from Valley High School in May 2009.
In her high school days, Cassie was on two different competitive cheerleading teams. Urbandale All Stars was the first competitive squad she had ever been on and that’s when her love for cheerleading started. Her team ended up making it to nationals her first year. After her first year with UAS, she decided to take an opportunity to cheer for IOWA ALL STARS. Cassie cheered for them for four years and went to nationals her second year there. During her time cheering for UAS/IAS she also cheered on the Tigers in varsity football and varsity girls basketball at Valley.
When she’s not cheering, Cassie loves to draw and paint whenever she can. During her junior year in high-school she got a “Drawing Scholarship” to the Des Moines art center for some of the drawings she did in school. After taking the class one of her still life drawings were put in a showcase at the Des Moines Art Center.
Cassie loves spending time with her two nieces and nephew. She is extremely excited to become a role model to all the cheerleaders on her squad.
Tim was introduced to cheerleading in college at Iowa State University. After a few open gyms he fell in love with the sport and has been passionate about it ever since. Cheering at Iowa State was one of the highlights of his college experience – being able to cheer for the Cyclones from the sidelines, traveling to different away games, and competing at nationals were truly amazing opportunities.
During college, Tim worked for NCA Staff, and then started working as an all-star coach after college. For the past seven years he has been actively involved with coaching tumbling, competitive cheerleading, clinics, and camps for all ages and experience levels. Tim’s passion and personality allow him to reach athletes at their level and motivate them to succeed.
When Tim isn’t coaching, he is pursuing his career in sales. Currently, Tim is working for LG Life Sciences as the Midwest and Western Territories Manager.

Madison, or Maddie for short, is currently a student in the BSN program at Mercy College of Health Sciences in Des Moines. She graduated from Dallas Center-Grimes High School in 2015 and has lived in Grimes her entire life.
Maddie started competitive cheerleading in 3rd grade at Grimes Superstars, where she cheered until her freshman year of high school. She then started cheering for DCG and during her senior year helped bring home the first state title in school history! After graduating, she continued to work with her mom, who currently coaches the team, and her cheerleaders and had the opportunity to choreograph parts of their routines. As of today they are 4-time state champions in the 3A division! She has worked with kids of all ages in cheerleading and tumbling and she’s so excited to teach her passion to the Tribe athletes and show them what a positive impact cheerleading can have! She’s looking forward to being successful at Tribe and cannot wait to watch the athletes grow and to create relationships with each one of them!
Austin was born and raised in southwest Kansas. He was involved with competitive gymnastics for 6 years and then transitioned into coaching and cheer. Austin went on to cheer for two years at college competing on a large co-ed cheer team at NCA Nationals in Daytona.
After college Austin coached gymnastics in Chicago, from toddlers to level 10 gymnasts. Austin brings to Tribe 8 years of coaching experience.
He loves to connect with each athlete on the level that they learn the best and believes in altering coaching methods slightly to better teach each individual athlete the way they need to achieve each skill. Even the smallest achievements shall be celebrated as victories.
Jason is a tribe 5 alumni from our 2017-2018 season. He stared his cheer/tumbling career 4 years ago. Jason started at Waukee high-school winning 2 back to back state titles. He has coached/taught swimming, cheerleading, and tumbling on a professional level. This coach has an intense passion for cheerleading and hopes to share that with children of all ages.
When Jason is not cheering he will most likely be pursuing his dreams of being a fashion designer.
Jason loves teaching and finding a way for your child to understand new skills.
Sarah is from San Marcos, Ca and moved here to Des Moines 3 years ago and has a 1 year old son.
Sarah started her cheerleading career at San Marcos High School in her sophomore year and than continued cheering at Mission Hills high school in San Marcos until her Senior year. After high school, she continued her love for cheerleading at a local community college and also started coaching at her old high school. She would continue to coach and cheer for 5 years. Sarah decided to retire from cheerleading after she broke her collarbone but continued to volunteer coach her city’s youth cheerleading program for 3 years. She coached her teams to nationals all 3 years where 2 out of the 3 years they were national champions! During her last year of volunteer coaching she was hired at a local small all star cheerleading gym and coached the Senior 2 team and coaching tumbling there for 1 year.
Sarah missed coaching high school cheerleading and decided to get back into it. She was than hired to be head coach at Rancho Buena Vista HS in Vista, CA. She continued to coach there for 2 years before moving to Iowa.
Sarah couldn’t stay away from cheerleading for too long, after her son turned a year old she knew this was the time to get back into coaching. She found Tribe and couldn’t be happier!
Tim started cheering on the Oskaloosa Indians in High School and quickly fell in love with the sport and joined an All-Star gym in Iowa City. He also took on cheering for the Central Dutch for a semester at Central College in Pella, IA.
After Central, Tim has been actively involved in communities volunteering, working for nonprofits, and coaching cheer in Oskaloosa. He currently lives inDes Moines with his partner Tony. In his free time he is usually traveling, taking pictures, and working out.
Tim believes that cheer teaches more than skill but how to be good people. He is excited to begin his journey with Tribe and to make lasting memories and relationships with athletes, parents, and coaches.
Annie is a tribe 5 alumni from the 2017-2018 and 2018-2019 seasons. She has been competitively cheerleading since sixth grade. She has a huge love for cheerleading and is excited to help others grow in their cheer careers!
When she’s not at the gym you can find her hanging out with her family/friends or her dogs!
